Moreover, everything is curated by specialist editors to ensure you get well-sourced, fact-based news from a wide range of publishers. You will then receive top stories throughout the day, and the more you read, the better the app gets at showing you stories of interest. Hosts Shumita Basu and Duarte Geraldino brief you on the top stories and how the world’s best journalists cover them. To begin with, you can start your weekday mornings with the Apple News Today bulletin that’s free for all users and completely ad-free. It’s highly intuitive and user-friendly so that you can easily stay in the know and keep up with the latest happenings. You can trust it for every kind of news on trends and topics that matter to you, whether local or global. So usually, I am sent outside of Twitter to read an article that someone else tweeted.Apple’s default news app is the best option for iPhone and iPad users. Of course, you could argue Twitter isn’t reading, but it is similar for me to the other two apps, Medium, and Apple News, in that I get a lot of my news from Twitter. I did want to quickly talk about a few more apps that I do quite a bit of reading on. Plus, with all of the features Amazon brings with purchasing Kindle books like Whispersync, Good Reads integration, and the fact that you can download the Kindle app on almost anything, it makes buying Kindle Books so much more superior than buying books from Apple Books. It also feels like Apple hasn’t touched more about the app in ages it is just not an app I look forward to using. It is a bit better on the iPhone, but the size of the margins and the inflexibility the apps offer to make the reading experience tailored to your needs is minimal. I do have some Apple Books, but I’m not too fond of the Apple Books app on the iPad. This is such a great feature to keep me focused and has helped me finish books in the past. The app will read the words aloud and highlight the words being read as it goes. I like to download both the book and audiobook versions in the Kindle app, then play the audiobook in the background as I read. Kindle highlighting text as audiobook plays. It wasn’t until I started using Reeder that I decided to change. I never liked Pocket myself, it felt like it was trying to do too much at times, but Instapaper was my jam for a long time. They have been around forever and are loved by many. Instapaper and Pocket are both very popular if you are looking for another option. I get a consistent reading experience for all the articles I read and get all the same benefits I described above for my read-it-later list. Reeder has become my go-to app for consuming most of the words I read online. Since I am already using Reeder 5 for my RSS reader, it makes sense to have my saved article there. Currently, my read-it-later setup is quite simple. Once I discovered Instapaper years ago, I knew I would always use one for the foreseeable future. That is where read-it-later apps have become a lifesaver. I often find something that I want to read but do not have the time to read it. Other RSS readers like Unread and NetNewsWire, I hear, are also good, but Reeder is my favorite choice of the bunch. Reading web pages in an RSS app already provides you a clearer view of the article you are reading, but Reader’s Reader View does more.Īs I mentioned before, I am a big fan of Six Colors, and a lot of their posts include extra things in the title like (Macworld/Jason Snell) or (Member Post) Reader View in Reeder cleans this up. The other two features are Reader View and Bionic Reading. The first is its built-in Read-It-Later feature which I will discuss in the next section. Reader offers three features that I quickly want to mention, but two I will go over right now. I prefer to always be in dark mode, with a dark gray background and white text. Sometimes Reeder has trouble rendering videos or specific videos within the app itself, but clicking the article’s title that links out to the browser resolves this easily. Not only does it reliably connect to Feedly and Feedbin effortlessly, providing all of the articles and blog posts that I sign up for, but the organization of the app and the reading experience are fantastic. I have used Reeder for years now and love it. I have The Morning by The New York Times, The Six Colors Newsletter, and Studio Neat’s Gazette Newsletters set up with Feedbin. Importing all of my RSS feeds from Feedly has been a breeze and the difference in Reeder between Feedly and Feedbin is non-existent. I have signed up for Feedbin’s 14-day trial and will try it out.
